As our regular customers and local residents will know, Arrow Mill is an extremely large - not to mention very old – building. It was originally built during the Edwardian era as a cotton mill, and is now a Grade II listed building.
Originally containing five acres of floor space, it was a fine example of the speed of mill building at the time. The contract to build was signed in late 1906, the first brick was laid in January 1907, the engine first ran under steam in February 1908 and the first cotton was spun in this large mill fifteen months after the first brick was laid.
The quality of the building work was certainly not compromised by its speed though, as Arrow Mill has stood the test of time and still retains many of those original features from over 100 years ago.
As custodians of this beautiful building, we at Arrow Mill Management Ltd take our responsibilities in maintaining Arrow Mill seriously and hope to preserve these features for at least another 100 years to come; with that goal in mind we have now employed a full-time caretaker, to enable us to actively work on the building on a daily basis.
In the few weeks since he was employed we have done some decorating, floor repairs, electrical work, roof repairs and pointing work. There are a lot of bricks holding this building up so it needs a lot of repointing! We are systematically working our way through a list of tasks that need to be done, as well as being in a position to be able to react to new things as and when they happen.
So if you are looking for a traditional, character-filled building, where maintenance (as well as many other things) is included in your rental fee, in which to base your business then look no further than Arrow Mill.
