We are incredibly busy here at Simple Storage and our self storage units are always very popular! So if you are looking for self storage in Rochdale to help you with a house move or while you do some much-needed renovation work, or perhaps to store your business stock, then you may think about “what size storage unit do I need?”
It sounds easy when you imagine it in your mind - maybe you need something the size of a van, or a garage, but can you picture all your belongings and know whether they will all fit into a 50 sq ft space, or 100 sq ft, or do you need a 270 sq ft unit? How do you make that decision?
The first thing you really need to do is make a list of everything that you want to go into storage – it’s one thing trying to make a rough checklist in your head, but there’s nothing like actually getting everything down on paper and SEEING how many items of furniture or how many boxes you have.
You then need to think about how you can stack all of these boxes – your heavy, bulky ones need to go at the bottom, whereas those with your Great Granny’s antique glass ornaments obviously need to go at the top, with nothing else above/around that could fall on them.
Can your super kingsize bed actually be taken apart and flat packed to save space? Could some of your boxes fit inside that wardrobe? Little tricks like this will help you make the most of your space but without damaging any of your belongings.
You also need to consider how you want to use your unit once it has been packed. Do you literally want to close the door then not even look at it again until it’s time to empty it? Or (in the case of someone storing business stock, for example) do you need regular access to take items out? If it is the latter, then you need to leave yourself a suitable gap for a pathway down the middle, or maybe one down either side – this additional floor space will obviously increase the size of unit that you require.
We can advise you on how to choose the best self storage unit size. There does appear to be a lot of confusion with regard to the actual sizes of our Rochdale self storage units. For example it is not uncommon for someone very interested in taking advantage of a 10 square foot unit to think that the actual floor dimensions of the unit are 10 feet by 10 feet. This is actually a misconception.
A unit which is 10 feet by 10 feet is actually 100 square foot and also known as 10 feet square. A 10 square foot unit may have the actual floor dimensions of 3.16 feet by 3.16 feet.
We just wanted to help clear up any confusion, especially when potential customers believe they can fit the contents of a house inside a 16 square foot unit (which is not actually 16 feet by 16 feet – it would be closer to 4 feet by 4 feet).
